I will be starting my sixth year of teaching 2nd grade this fall. Besides my student teaching, it's the grade level where I started and am still blessed to teach! :)
2. If you could be anything other than a teacher, what would you be?
Hmmmm. This is a really tough question!!! I have known since I was a Kindergartener in my mom's classroom that I was born to teach. I guess there was about a 3 month period my Junior year of high school where I thought I could maybe be a graphic designer! :)

I love spending time with my puppies, working on creations for school, blogging, visiting with my friends, watching movies, making crafts, and working in my yard. I am a sports fan, and I love watching almost any sport but hockey is hands down my favorite! :) My favorite sport to play is golf, but I haven't been doing much of that this summer. Grad school is finally wrapping up and I might be able to hit the links! :)
5. What do you like best about your classroom?
My classroom is in a newish school and I love all of my storage space, and the technology I get to use everyday with students! I love the bright colors I use to make it feel warm, positive, and inviting!
6. What do you like least about your classroom?
I wish it was a little bigger with windows that open, but I really can't complain too much!
7. What are you currently reading?
I just finished reading my science and math textbooks for grad school. Bring on Teaching Like a Pirate!
8. If money and time was no object, where would you spend your summer vacation?
This one is EASY! I just got back from visiting my sister in Bend, Oregon. If I could, I would spend my summers out there every year. It is hands down the most beautiful place I have ever visited and there is always something going on! There are always outdoor concerts or hullabaloos going on, and if you don't want to do that you can go to the lake or paddle board down the river. We had such a good time out there!
9. What is your favorite pet?
DOGS! DOGS! DOGS!
10. What is your favorite TV show?
I LOVE watching Castle! It's on during the school year on Monday nights and I so look forward to it! This summer I like watching Big Brother or Pretty Little Liars!
11. What is your must have beauty product?
I just switched my foundation and bronzer over to Bare Minerals and I love their stuff! They can fix anything and everything, seriously! Worth the money!

Kayla,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the nomination. I like the assignment. Now I know how my students feel! Thanks for that.
1. What do you like to do when you're not at school?
Being with my family. My wife Kristie is my best friend and the smartest person I know. I have two step kids, Casey and KoKo as well as two little ones of my own Kenzie (4 1/2) and Cash (2 1/2). There is never a dull moment.
2. What is your favorite dessert?
That's easy: cheesecake. When I chaperoned the choir trip several years ago, I bought a $10.00 piece of cheesecake at the Hard Rock Cafe. It was worth every penny.
3. Do you have any pets?
Three. Two cats (Einstein and Mischa) and one dog (Kozy). I'm a total cat person though.
4. What is your favorite holiday?
This one is easy: Halloween. I love getting to relive it with my little ones now. Also, now that I'm not coaching in the fall, I hope to decorate our house even more than in the past.
5. If you weren't a teacher/employee of a school district, what would you be?
Great question. Either a UPS driver or an entrepreneur.
6. Where is your favorite place to visit?
My father-in-law and step-mother in law's cabin in Custer, SD. The trip there is a pain, but last summer we went and toured Jewel Cave, MT Rushmore, Sylvan Lake (where we were married) and stopped at a water park in Souix Falls.
7. What inspired the theme of your blog?
I had been wanting to blog for a long time, but I couldn't settle on the right title. Then I was in a history class with Eric Bergerson. He mentioned that he had kept a blog for a number of year. He said it was called "Countryscribe." Then the title "Teacherscribe" just clicked in my brain, and I've been blogging ever since.
I think all teachers should blog. What a great way to show the community how much we love our jobs and how great our students are. In fact, I just helped Mr. Zutz start his own blog last week!
8. What is your favorite book?
A very tough question.
Off the top of my head, I'd say "To Kill a Mockingbird" (my daughter's middle name is Scout), but "Tuesdays With Morrie" is also right up there. I also love Thomas Friedman's "The World is Flat" and Tom Romano's "Crafting Authentic Voice" is one of my favorites to use in class.
9. What is the best part of your job?
Everything! I love my job. It's not even a job: it's who I am. I love the kids, the practice of teaching, the theories behind it, the subject, the reform efforts. I love it all and couldn't imagine doing anything else.
10. What is your favorite grade to teach or age to work with?
Probably seniors. I envy them. They are heading out into such an exciting world and an exciting time in their lives. I like to try and help guide them and prepare them for that world.
11. What is your favorite restaurant?
I'm going to have to go with Famous Dave's. The corn on the cob, pulled pork, and corn bread are the best!
This was a lot of fun. Thanks!
SO FUN to read your replies! Thanks for participating! :) :)
DeleteHave a good rest of your summer!
Kayla
When you can condition your kids to give you candy--you have done your job.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend that went to school with the lead actress of Castle, he always has funny stories to tell about her. I can honestly say that I've never seen it, but I have girls that want to always watch my little pony...so I don't get the TV much.
great post!
